'Story I', etching on paper, 29cm x 85cm, 2003
Etchings on paper
Contemporary Czech printmaker Míla Furstová's work is executed largely in the medium of etching. This process has important qualities that compliment her way of visual thinking. The element of surprise in this technique results in a creative and sometimes unpredictable dialogue between the work and the artist.
The ideas within Míla's work intertwine everyday experiences with myths, tales and dreams. Her art invites the audience to enter into labyrinths of imagination and encourages to play with potential meanings within.
Míla Furstová exhibits her work widely in Britain and abroad. Her art can be found in private as well as public collections, including that of Her Majesty the Queen, the Sultan of Brunei, the Victoria and Albert Museum in London and the Ashmolean Museum of Art in Oxford. In 2004, Míla has been awarded the Curwen Prize from the Mall Galleries, London, and the London Print Studio Prize at the Royal West of England Academy, Bristol. She has also received a nomination for the overall winner of Grafika Roku, Print of the Year 2004 in Prague.
